{"id":5694,"date":"2026-09-09T11:29:10","date_gmt":"2026-09-09T09:29:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/help.r2docuo.com\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=5694"},"modified":"2026-09-09T13:12:55","modified_gmt":"2026-09-09T11:12:55","slug":"connect-chatgpt-to-the-r2-docuo-ai-connector","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/help.r2docuo.com\/en\/knowledge-base\/connect-chatgpt-to-the-r2-docuo-ai-connector\/","title":{"rendered":"Connect ChatGPT to the R2 Docuo AI connector"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This article explains how to connect <strong>ChatGPT<\/strong> to the R2 Docuo AI connector, so you can query your repository from a conversation with ChatGPT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon is-style-alert\">Before you start, an administrator of your repository must have enabled the connector and granted you access. See <a href=\"\/en\/knowledge-base\/requirements-and-activation-of-the-ai-connector\/\">Requirements and activation of the AI connector<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon\">AI assistants change their menus and their capabilities frequently. The steps in this article describe the process in <strong>ChatGPT<\/strong> as of September 2026: an option may have moved, been renamed, or become unnecessary in your version. If something does not match, search for &#8220;connectors&#8221;, &#8220;apps&#8221; or &#8220;MCP&#8221; in its own settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What you need<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An <strong>R2 Docuo<\/strong> account as a contracted user, with &#8220;MCP access&#8221; granted, and your password.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <strong>ChatGPT<\/strong> account on a plan that supports your own connectors. At the time of writing these are the Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu plans.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The server address: <code>https:\/\/mcp.r2docuo.com<\/code><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon\">On <strong>Business and Enterprise<\/strong> workspaces, a workspace administrator has to allow the creation of custom connectors first. If they have not, the option will not appear for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon\">ChatGPT <strong>registers itself<\/strong> with our authorisation server, so you normally do not need a client id or client secret: the server address is enough. If your version does ask for them, ask an administrator of your repository to request them through a support ticket, stating that they are for ChatGPT and which repository will be used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Turning on developer mode<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ChatGPT keeps custom connectors behind a mode you have to turn on once:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open ChatGPT&#8217;s <strong>settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>Apps<\/strong> and open its <strong>advanced settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Turn on <strong>developer mode<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">OpenAI has moved this setting around and renamed the section that holds it, so if you cannot find it where indicated, search for &#8220;developer mode&#8221; in the settings themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Creating the connector<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In the settings, go to the <strong>connectors<\/strong> section.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose <strong>Create<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fill in the three details it asks for:<br><strong>Name<\/strong>: R2 Docuo<br><strong>Description<\/strong>: Query documents and workflows in the repository<br><strong>MCP server URL<\/strong>: <code>https:\/\/mcp.r2docuo.com<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Confirm. ChatGPT will take you to <strong>the R2 Docuo sign-in screen<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter your <strong>R2 Docuo user name and password<\/strong>, choose the <strong>repository<\/strong> and <strong>accept the consent screen<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your password is only ever typed into the R2 Docuo screen; ChatGPT neither sees nor stores it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-ht-blocks-messages wp-block-hb-message wp-block-hb-message--withicon\">One connection works with <strong>one repository<\/strong>: the one you choose when signing in. If you work with several, you will need to sign in again to switch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Using it in a conversation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Depending on your version of ChatGPT, you may have to <strong>enable the connector in the conversation<\/strong> \u2014 from the tools or apps menu of the message box \u2014 and not just have it created. Once done, check that it answers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Which R2 Docuo repository are you connected to, and what can you do there?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It should answer with your user name, the repository identifier and a summary of what it can query. There are more examples in <a href=\"\/en\/knowledge-base\/what-you-can-ask-the-ai-connector\/\">What you can ask the AI connector<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Once the connector is published<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are in the process of publishing the connector on the AI platforms. Once it is available as a ChatGPT app, you will not have to create anything or turn on developer mode: you will just add it from the catalogue, sign in and choose a repository. The steps in this article will remain valid for anyone who prefers to create it by hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Disconnecting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Go to ChatGPT&#8217;s settings, open the connectors section and remove the R2 Docuo one. You can also turn developer mode off if you do not use it for anything else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the Docuo side, an administrator can withdraw your access at any time without you touching anything: the next query will be rejected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">If something does not work<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><thead><tr><th>What you see<\/th><th>What to check<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>The option to create a connector does not appear<\/td><td>That developer mode is on and, on Business or Enterprise, that a workspace administrator has allowed it.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>You sign in but your repository does not appear<\/td><td>That the administrator has enabled the connector on that repository, or set your &#8220;MCP access&#8221; to &#8220;Allowed&#8221;.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>ChatGPT does not use the connector even though it is created<\/td><td>Enable it in the conversation from the tools menu of the message box, and ask it explicitly to query R2 Docuo.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>It used to work and has stopped<\/td><td>That access has not been withdrawn, that artificial intelligence has not been switched off on the repository, and that your plan&#8217;s usage limit has not run out.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the problem persists, open a support ticket stating the repository, your user name and the approximate time of the attempt.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This article explains how to connect ChatGPT to the R2 Docuo AI connector, so you can query your repository from a conversation with ChatGPT.
