This article explains how to connect ChatGPT to the R2 Docuo AI connector, so you can query your repository from a conversation with ChatGPT.
Before you start, an administrator of your repository must have enabled the connector and granted you access. See Requirements and activation of the AI connector.
AI assistants change their menus and their capabilities frequently. The steps in this article describe the process in ChatGPT as of September 2026: an option may have moved, been renamed, or become unnecessary in your version. If something does not match, search for “connectors”, “apps” or “MCP” in its own settings.
What you need
- An R2 Docuo account as a contracted user, with “MCP access” granted, and your password.
- A ChatGPT account on a plan that supports your own connectors. At the time of writing these are the Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu plans.
- The server address:
https://mcp.r2docuo.com
On Business and Enterprise workspaces, a workspace administrator has to allow the creation of custom connectors first. If they have not, the option will not appear for you.
ChatGPT registers itself with our authorisation server, so you normally do not need a client id or client secret: the server address is enough. If your version does ask for them, ask an administrator of your repository to request them through a support ticket, stating that they are for ChatGPT and which repository will be used.
Turning on developer mode
ChatGPT keeps custom connectors behind a mode you have to turn on once:
- Open ChatGPT’s settings.
- Go to Apps and open its advanced settings.
- Turn on developer mode.
OpenAI has moved this setting around and renamed the section that holds it, so if you cannot find it where indicated, search for “developer mode” in the settings themselves.
Creating the connector
- In the settings, go to the connectors section.
- Choose Create.
- Fill in the three details it asks for:
Name: R2 Docuo
Description: Query documents and workflows in the repository
MCP server URL:https://mcp.r2docuo.com - Confirm. ChatGPT will take you to the R2 Docuo sign-in screen.
- Enter your R2 Docuo user name and password, choose the repository and accept the consent screen.
Your password is only ever typed into the R2 Docuo screen; ChatGPT neither sees nor stores it.
One connection works with one repository: the one you choose when signing in. If you work with several, you will need to sign in again to switch.
Using it in a conversation
Depending on your version of ChatGPT, you may have to enable the connector in the conversation — from the tools or apps menu of the message box — and not just have it created. Once done, check that it answers:
Which R2 Docuo repository are you connected to, and what can you do there?
It should answer with your user name, the repository identifier and a summary of what it can query. There are more examples in What you can ask the AI connector.
Once the connector is published
We are in the process of publishing the connector on the AI platforms. Once it is available as a ChatGPT app, you will not have to create anything or turn on developer mode: you will just add it from the catalogue, sign in and choose a repository. The steps in this article will remain valid for anyone who prefers to create it by hand.
Disconnecting
Go to ChatGPT’s settings, open the connectors section and remove the R2 Docuo one. You can also turn developer mode off if you do not use it for anything else.
From the Docuo side, an administrator can withdraw your access at any time without you touching anything: the next query will be rejected.
If something does not work

If the problem persists, open a support ticket stating the repository, your user name and the approximate time of the attempt.
